The egg retrieval is a process of taking eggs from the ovaries. The egg retrieval is performed in a sterile environment and a woman undergoes a very light intravenous sedation.

The egg retrieval is performed by a gynecologist under a continuous transvaginal ultrasound guidance. The content of each follicle is aspirated through a special needle, and is passed on to the embryologist. The embryologist identifies the eggs with the aid of the microscope, isolates the egg from the follicular fluid and places in special small dishes. The dishes then placed in special incubators under appropriate culture conditions.

The egg collection procedure is painless and takes about 10-20 minutes, depending on the number of follicles. After the egg retrieval, the woman stays for a while in the recovery room (approximately 30 minutes) for monitoring and instructions related to her treatment.
