Assessing a woman’s fertility involves a combination of tests to analyze ovarian function, uterine condition, and fallopian tube patency.
- AMH Measurement (Anti-Müllerian Hormone): Measuring AMH is considered a key indicator of ovarian reserve, i.e., the quantity of eggs remaining in the ovaries. AMH helps determine a woman’s potential response to assisted reproductive treatments, while low levels may indicate limited fertility.
- AFC (Antral Follicle Count): By counting the number of antral follicles (AFC) via ultrasound, doctors can better assess a woman’s ovarian reserve. AFC is a critical parameter, providing information on the number of available eggs.
- Transvaginal Ultrasound: This ultrasound examines the uterus and endometrium for abnormalities that might affect embryo implantation, such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions, or congenital anomalies. It is a painless procedure that offers an immediate view of uterine function.
- Hysterosalpingography (HSG)/Hysterosonography (HyFoSy): These imaging tests evaluate the patency of the fallopian tubes, which are crucial for achieving pregnancy. HSG/HyFoSy detects any tubal dysfunction, which could be a cause of infertility.

Semen analysis is the most important indicator of male fertility, as it evaluates the ability of sperm to fertilize an egg.
- Semen Analysis (Spermogram): The spermogram is a basic test that studies the number, motility, and morphology of sperm. The results provide insights into whether a man’s sperm is suitable for natural conception or if assisted reproduction is required.
- DFI (DNA–Fragmentation–Index), Oxidative Stress (SoRP), Peripheral Blood Karyotype, Cultures & Scrotal Ultrasound: These are more specialized tests applied when deemed necessary.
