Meet Dr. Marinos Tsirigotis

Education & Academic Titles

Dr. Tsirigotis was admitted to the Athens Medical School after passing entrance exams, where he graduated with a Medical degree. He then specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology at various hospitals in London and became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (1996) and a fellow in 2004.

After returning to Greece, he co-founded the AKESO Assisted Reproductive Gynecology and Reproductive Center, where he served as clinical director until December 2022. Since January 2023, he has been providing his services at the Institute of Life at IASO, which is the most advanced IVF unit in Greece in terms of technology, laboratory, and clinical standards.

PhD Dissertation

He completed his doctoral dissertation titled “Proteinuria as an independent prognostic factor in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis.”

  • Male infertility. A pioneer in the use of percutaneous techniques for sperm retrieval from the epididymis and testes in patients with azoospermia (PESA, TESE).

Throughout his medical career, he has received numerous awards and distinctions, such as a scholarship from IKY during his 5th year of medical studies, an honorable mention for his services in obstetrics and gynecology from Greenwich Health Authority, and a special recognition from the New York Academy of Sciences.

Publications

Throughout his career, Dr. Tsirigotis has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in human reproduction, specifically on male infertility, premature ovarian failure, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, ovarian stimulation protocols, and methods to improve ovarian function. He has also made over 30 presentations and poster/publications at various national and international conferences.

Membership in Societies, Editorial Board Positions

Dr. Tsirigotis is a member of many scientific organizations, including prestigious ones such as the RCOG, ASRM, ESHRE, NYAS, Hunterian Society, EEMG, EEGS, and ELEVIAS.

He is also a reviewer for journals such as Fertility and Sterility, Human Reproduction Update, and European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Research

He has been distinguished in male infertility research with pioneering sperm retrieval techniques from the epididymis and testes in patients with azoospermia. He is currently involved in the stem cell therapy program at IOL, applying this treatment to women with premature ovarian failure and conditions affecting endometrial development and function.
